The Brief
The brief in the course is to make a 2 minute film opening. For my 2 minute film opening, the genre I've decided to choose is a Romantic Horror. I've chosen this genre due to the fact that it's a complicated genre because, it's a sub. We have to conform to both genre's of Horror and Romance, without subverting. My whole idea for my 2 minute opening is a young school girl and her lover who has a hero characteristic, is attacked by a villain, however, a friend who's a false hero, saves the day and a mystery is revealed at the end . Although, this was my inital idea, some aspects of it has changed. My inspiration for my inital 2 minute film opening came from Twilight. Howvere, from the changes we made, our insparations come from the three films, Kidulthood, Taken and Dark Knight. |
Movie Recreation; Man of steel

|
For our movie recreation, we had to recreate the interrogation scene from Man of Steel including the original dialogue and settings. We also used mise-en-scene effectively to replicate the interrogation scene.
Resident Evil 4- Opening Title Sequence
This is the opening title scene from Resident evil 4. I'ts set in a city, it's dark and it's raining. It begins with an establishing shot of the city. The music played at the background seems intruding and powerful from the smashing sounds. It helps sets the mood in the city. There's cars rushing up and down; while it's raining, everyone walking up and down has an umbrella protecting them from the rain excpet from this women who seems to not care about getting touched by the rain. From all this you can tell something isn't right. It begins to go slow motion zooming into her shoes. They're red and they look glamorous, this women must be wealthy. The camera continues to analyse this women from top to bottom and from a high angle. Everything around her is still going on as normal but, this women is just standing still in the middle of everyone; the camera avoids to show this women's face several times. This must be to avoid his identify. Until the women has an eyeline match with one of the civilians walking by, all of a sudden, she pounces on this man and kills him.
By the looks of this opening scene, the genre must lay in Horror/Thriller/action. From the opening, I assume that story is based on good vs evil, to see who survives etc. |

Favourite Artist
I've chosen Drake as my favourite artist because I really enjoy his music and as a person, I find him very outgoing and successful. He's evolved over the years in the music industry to become an all sky high artist. Personally, what I love the most about him is his lyrics and his determination to please his fans.
He's a very outspoken person; he's down to earth and I think that's what most people love about him. Being able to realte his fans and people in general through his powerful lyrics is on his strongest features. |
Inspiration
Tyrese Gibson is a powerful man, along with powerful words. Not only is he a motivational speaker but an actor. Tyrese has this goal of sharing words of wisdom, words of success, determination and much more. I respect and look up to him because, he makes me realise how beautiful life can be if I'm determined to win and work hard. Most of his words are just eye openers and they can really make you feel good about yourself and make you visualise how life should be.

Favourite MovieI've chosen, The Theory of Everything as my favourite film. This film touched me in so many ways, the story line and the moral of the film has impacted me in so many ways. It's all about a scientist, Stepehn Hawking, who was determined to discover the theory of everything but, the process of it all wasn't easy. He ended up suffering from a rare early-onset slow-progressing form of Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) also known as a motor neurone disease, which has gradually paralysed him. This didn't stop him, although it was very rough for him, he was determined; it led him to success with his theory.

Analysis of Gender Representation in Casino Royale clip
|
Casino Royale is set in the city full of money, crime and loads of gambling. James Bond is a top secret service agent, code 007, who fights and conquers evil. His character conforms to his stereotype, as a man he is dominant, strong, in charge etc. In media, men are rewarded for self-control and the control of others, aggression and violence, financially independent etc. In the beginning of the clip, we see him in a rough situation where he's fighting where he kills the man at the end. This conforms to his stereotype and his character; he's in the action, he's being aggressive, he also seems to be in charge after demanding for the women to go and do a task for him. The women in this clip conforms to her stereotype. She's vulnerable, she's pressed up against the wall away from the action. She's been seen as weak. In the Casino seen, the stereotype of women is subverted as you see a women on the gambling table actually partaking of the game, however, she's seen as just a filler. James is drinking, he's gambling fitting the male stereotype.
When James goes back to his hotel room, he finds the women fully clothed, sitting under a running shower head clenched to herself. She looks traumatised, weak and very vulnerable; conforming to her stereotype. However, James subverts his character stereotype and gets down to the women's level showing his meek side, he becomes the comforter rather than the strict agent. You wouldn't of expected this from his character. |

Seven Opening Title AnalysisThe opening title to Seven is dark. This belongs to the thriller genre. Codes and conventions such as; the blood drop on the paper work, the rigid front for the credits, the freaky mysterious pictures, the fingers getting scrapped by a razor which I assume is self harm, all this links and conveys a thriller type mood. The style of the credits gives of the feeling that there's a mystery or something bad is going to happen later on in the film. The mood set is negative. Also, the positioning of the credits are all over the place and messy, it makes the opening title look abstract. The person in the opening clip is being portrayed as a scary and mysterious. Scarce and mystery conforms to the genre of thriller. The sequencing of the credits, the production of the people who created the film comes up first as ' New Line Cinema Presents'. Overall, there are 27 credits shown in the 2 minute opening clip.
Throughout the opening clip, the common shot type that was used was an extreme close up. This has a massive effect on the audience. Doing this gives a sense of paranoia to the audience, due to the fact that the audience have been forced to focus on what's in the frame without acknowledging what's outside the frame. The props shown are things like; a freaky picture which seems to be a diagram of abstract hands, machinery, a razor, scissors, bandages, a needle and blood. All these connote danger, pain and killing. The colours shown are black, grey and just bland dull colours. The lighting is low-key throughout, except from the parts when we see it from the person's perspective. This conforms the thriller genre dude to how the atmosphere has been set using, colours and props. The setting seems enclosed, daunting and creepy due to the effects being used. There was cuts between the credits and the actual clip, we could say continuity editing was used effectively; it changes pretty quickly but, not too fast. In the extract, we hear mechanical sounds, which sounds distorted and scary. The music fits the extract. Also during the music I heard and scream and later on the lyrics pronounced was "you got me closer to god" |
